You must finish in the top five to advance to the next race. Placing in the top five earns you some prize money. Note that each race has an entry fee, so you'll eventually run out of money if you keep losing.
You can also lose races by getting arrested. The cops will bust you if they see you skitchin'. However, if you're feeling particularly daring, you can skitch a cop car and earn money for every second that you're on it. You also have six pieces of equipment. As you get banged around and wipe out, the equipment degrades. You'll need to replace equipment if it gets bad enough.
There's a shop you can visit in between each race that sells the equipment. If your skates or wheels completely break down, you'll be forced to retire from the race and buy new equipment. After each race, you'll see a Status screen that displays how intact your equipment is. The colors from best to worst are: Green, Yellow, Red, Black. You can perform various tricks by jumping off of ramps, dirt piles, fallen street signs, and many other things.
You perform a trick by pressing a direction or a button in the air. Three judges will rate you on a scale of according to difficulty and how well you performed it. Down at the bottom of the screen during a race, you'll see a number of displays. The bar besides your name indicates your stamina. When this is depleted to zero, you fall down. This bar recovers over time.
If you see another name under yours, that's your closest opponent, and his stamina meter. When you fight him and deplete his bar to zero, you earn a Knockdown.
You also see what place you are in, and how much distance is left in the race. The first aid icon and the bar beside it represent your health. If this bar gets depleted to zero, you'll have to retire from the race and go to the hospital and pay a bill. The bar below that is how intact your skates are. Remember that if these break down, you'll have to buy new equipment. Sometimes you gain access to bonus courses by meeting a specific requirement within a regular course.
It may be to finish within a certain time, or doing a certain number of tricks. The bonus courses stays consistent with the objective, and you can earn lots of cash on the bonus courses. Pay attention to the skitchers that say something before each race. They often have important general and course-related clues that are helpful. Prize Money There are six different factors that determine how much money you get at the end of each course: 1. Race Bonus You gain money if you finish in the top five.
How much you earn depends on what place you came in and what course it is. Warp Bonus Unknown at this time. Trick Bonus By performing tricks off of the ramps and jumps, you earn some amount of money for each one.

This is an easy course with only one lane of traffic. Practice your skitchin' and slingshotting here, as well as jumps if you want in the right lane.
Speed Bonus Course 4. Thus, you need to slingshot and grab onto a car in the other lane as it passes you, and then repeat the process over and over until you reach the end of the course. If you don't finish in under 80 seconds, you don't earn any money. There is 2 player - Turn by Turn, for those who don't like having their screen hogged by another player.
Essentially quite boring to whoever isn't playing though. The screen is a little squished not enough to worry us with our 41'' TV This mode does make the game easier however, as only one of you needs to make in the Top 5 to progress. You fight and race each other to the death. The problem? If you knock your friend out, they are basically screwed the second you skitch your first car.
Not too competitive. Control is nice. A plus a direction will put your arm out to skitch a car, B is the accelerator, and C hits. After getting some air, various button combinations will perform stunts, but keep in mind the time it takes to do the trick in relation to the amount of air you have. In terms of lasting, Skitchin' is very good.
There is plenty of game to keep you satisfied. The single player game is long enough to keep you interested, and the whole cash and equipment management is deep enough. There's about 10 levels to skitch your way through, getting progressively difficult. The two player experience makes things a little easier, but it is a great way to have a bit of fun with a friend. The game is good enough to sweep away most of its comparability to Road Rash. While RR3 built on the depth of equipment management of Skitchin', it is still essentially Road Rash 2 with more bells and whistles.
Basically if you like Road Rash, get Skitchin'. If you hate Road Rash, try Skitchin' anyway. Overall, I'd say this is one of my top Slagged by reviewers at the time because of it's Road Rash roots, people tend to give up on it prematurely.
It is a good game, with an interesting concept and plenty of staying power. It gets helped by having a strong 2 player mode as well. If you can track it down, get it, you won't regret it. Graphics: 8. Plenty of colours, in conjunction with big sprites with plenty of animation. The cars look stiff and the backgrounds have some scaling problems, but these are quite minor hitches. Sound: 9. A great mix of various rock tracks.
Sound effects are quite good too. Nothing beats the sound of frying one of those skinheaded freaks with a cattle prod. The premise doesn't really allow for it.
Gameplay: 9. Pick it up and play at any time. There are a wealth of stages to get through. It's item management is fairly deep. It does get tough later on, but rumor has it there are ways to teleport back to the beginning. Two player will get you and a friend addicted for certain. Control: 8.
You do have to watch yourself when it comes to performing the tricks. Lastability: 8. I still love it. There is plenty to keep you coming back for more. The game isn't short by any length of the imagination. It is around a medium difficulty, but the learning curve is quite low.
Pro's - Nice Graphics - Excellent Soundtrack - Great Two Player modes - Great involving gameplay - Easy to control - Will keep you playing for ages to come Con's - Background scaling sucks - Two player modes make things easy - It was thought of as Road Rash on skates when it came out, and was overlooked Does it belong in my collection? Get it now. Kill, maim, steal it if necessary. I doubt there will ever be a sequel. A little rare, but not as bad as some games. Overall: 9. Plenty here to keep you interested.
