I decided to bring up this older thread instead of making a new 1. Does anyone have a way to go by serial number to find a year on these tillers?
I have a engine that I think is correct if it is from the early 60's and I have a model 8 briggs here somewhere that I can put on it if it is a 55 model or so. I have a original owners manual for a 55 and mine looks much like it.
But there is no mention of a serial number tag. The manual says the number is stamped on the gear box. So mine is a bit older or a bit newer even though the frame is the same. I have a complete 61 model Briggs I was going to stick on it but for resto I would rather get closer to correct if it is older than Sir Thomas Registered.

Depending what the equipment is determines how well you can do that. I have a Magna Front tine Till Smith tiller. I could get all kinds of information on the motor but the tiller itself is that problem. I see manuals which includes parts list for different models but not mine.
